The executive committee of Association of West African societies of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (AWASOG) welcomes you to our site – a forum for interaction and exchange of ideas and activities in relation to maternal, newborn, and child healthcare, with emphases on the West African sub-region. Our mandate is to pursue AWASOG’s mission of mobilizing obstetricians and gynaecologists of the sub-region towards active participation in dialogues related to policy formulation, human resources and infrastructural development, together with the building of interdisciplinary bridges towards a lasting sexual and reproductive healthcare for the people of the West African sub-region.

Our activities are focused on four thematic areas of advocacy, clinical services, training, and research essentially targeted at women’s sexual and reproductive rights related issues under the sustainable development goals, including:- the promotion of adolescent, pre-pregnancy and maternal nutrition and prevention of stunting in children – SDG goal 2, target 2; promotion of the overall reproductive wellbeing of a mother, new-born and child, including effective combat of non-communicable diseases (SDG goal 3); promoting the status of women through advocacy and participation in measures against women sexual and reproductive rights abuses e.g gender inequality, gender based violence, unsafe motherhood, and traditional harmful practices in order to promote, protect, and uphold sexual and reproductive rights of women in the sub-region (SDG goal 5).
